Biography

John has over 20 years’ experience in the Australian energy sector and focuses on clean energy and clean technology. He advises Government, private sector operators, large energy consumers and investors. John's work has included creating industry development strategies and programs for governments, innovation sourcing for industrials, sourcing/transaction management for international investors and strategy/export growth for technology companies.

John started his career in engineering roles in the oil and gas industry in Scotland and Syria, engineering roles in London and Adelaide before joining what became Origin Energy in 1998 where he worked in national strategic development, M&A and corporate investment positions. In 2007, John established Australian CleanTech, a strategic and corporate advisory firm with a primary focus on energy and environmental sector technologies, projects and programs, which he ran until joining Deloitte in 2018.

John has engineering degrees from the University of Oxford and Trinity College, Dublin and an MBA from the University of Adelaide. He is widely published including two books on the opportunities that are being created from the transition to a low carbon economy, the latter of which, Visions 2100, was launched at the Paris COP21 Climate Conference in 2015.
