UQ students selected for national Australia–Asia leadership program

14 April 2026

Four University of Queensland (UQ) students have been selected for the inaugural 2026 Westpac Australia–Asia Fellowship, a 9-month leadership development program designed to deepen understanding of the Asia-Pacific region and strengthen Australia’s engagement with its neighbours.

The national program awarded Fellowships to 35 students across Australia, offering a blend of cultural immersion, adaptive leadership, and access to thought leaders working at the forefront of Australia–Asia relations.

UQ Vice-Chancellor and Westpac Scholars Trust Board Director Professor Deborah Terry AC said the UQ Fellows exemplify the passion, curiosity, and leadership potential the program was designed to support.

“As neighbours, Australia and Asia share a deep and interconnected future. Programs like the Westpac Australia–Asia Fellowship play a vital role in fostering globally minded, values‑driven leaders who can strengthen regional relationships and contribute meaningfully to shared challenges across the region.

”UQ is proud to see our students recognised as part of this inaugural cohort and to support their contribution to Australia’s engagement with our neighbours.”
