Associate Professor Pedro Fidelman leads strategic projects in the Environment, Energy and Sustainability theme at the Centre for Policy Futures, where he has also served as an Acting Director. Pedro’s research focuses on environmental policy and governance with an emphasis on the role of institutions (e.g., regulations, norms, and decision-making processes) in addressing current and emerging environmental and sustainability issues.

Working with government and industry partners, he has undertaken applied research in the context of marine social-ecological systems, climate change adaptation, blue economy and natural resources management in Australia, Southeast Asia and Brazil.

Pedro has contributed expertise to several national and international initiatives in his field, serving as a member of the Future Earth Australia Oceans and Coasts National Strategy Expert Working Group, and lead author for the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Global Environment Outlook 6.

Prior to joining UQ, he held research positions in Brazil (e.g., University of Brasilia) and Australia (e.g., ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies and Sustainability Research Centre of the University of the Sunshine Coast).
