Biography
Ms Sykes is a mining engineer and industry executive with over 25 years’ experience in operational and management roles across the public and private sectors. Her career has included industry development, strategy and planning, supply chain optimisation, and international market development across varied domestic and international industry segments.
Ms Sykes has a strong interest in the application of innovation and technology to mining and resources, strategic cluster development, and the linking of international innovation ecosystems. More recently, she led International Engagement at Mining Equipment Technology and Services (METS) Ignited Australia Ltd – Australia’s Industry Growth Centre, with an agenda to drive innovation and export growth in Australia’s $90 billion METS sector. Prior to this, she worked within the NSW Department of Industry, Trade and Investment, where she led a strategic program with business and industry partners to advance investment, innovation, industry development and competitive positioning for the METS sector.
Ms Sykes holds a Bachelor of Engineering Hons 1 (Mining – UNSW), and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment. She is an Advisory Board Member for the Newcastle Institute of Energy and Resources (NIER) / Global Impact Cluster, and is the current Chair of METS NSW.
