Associate Professor Marina Fortes

School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences, UQ.

Associate Professor Marina Fortes leads the Livestock Genomics Group at The University of Queensland. She holds a Veterinary Medicine degree (2004) and a Master's in Animal Reproduction (2007) from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, followed by a PhD and postdoc on cattle genetics, from UQ.

Her research focuses on cattle genomics, fertility, and methane emissions, aiming to enhance sustainable livestock production. Supported by Meat and Livestock Australia, her work integrates advanced genomics technologies to understand and improve cattle production traits. Key areas of interest include bovine reproductive biology and reducing environmental impacts through efficient breeding strategies. Marina also teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses, fostering the next generation of scientists in livestock biotechnology and genomics.
