National Foundation for Australia-China Relations Grants Round 2022-2023

The Foundation provides grants to develop, promote and strengthen understanding and engagement between Australia and China in support of Australia’s national interests.

The Foundation’s strategic objectives are:

• Promoting connections and practical cooperation
• Building understanding and exchange
• Showcasing Australian excellence
• Engaging Australia’s diverse communities

The Foundation welcomes applications in line with the Foundation’s strategic objectives, including but not limited to the following areas:

• Collaboration to tackle shared challenges, such as climate change and ageing populations
• Informed business engagement with China, including in the following areas:
  • Low emissions technology and the environment
  • Health and aging
  • Education
  • Agritech and agribusiness
  • Financial technology
• Cohesive communities: recognising and supporting the contribution of Chinese Australian communities and supporting Chinese international students and scholars, including to connect with the broader Australian community
• Promotion of Australia’s First Nations culture in China
• Communications, including projecting a positive image of Australia in China, media diversity and access to relevant information
• Showcasing Australian society, institutions and excellence to relevant audiences in Australia and China
• People-to-people connections, including in art, culture and sports
• Science, technology and environment
• China awareness: improving the capacity of Australian organisations to engage confidently with China.
  

Global Partnerships provides Global Strategy Framework and Global Partnership Briefs, The Global Strategy and Partnerships (GSP) team welcomes inquiries to identify potential partners in China.

Eligibility

Funding

The estimated grant value is from $100,000 to $500,000 for a maximum of 2 years. Labour costs of Australian employees you directly employ to deliver the core elements of the grant project (but not ongoing salaries) is an eligible expenditure. Subsidy of general ongoing administration of an organisation such as electricity, phone, rent, salaries (including for research assistants or administrative staff), honorariums or administrative charges levied by the applicant's organisation is not funded.

Step 2: Completing the application

The grant guidelines are available from the DFAT website. All applications must be submitted by the applicant electronically using the SmartyGrants NAFCR application form.

Although not required for the NAFCR, upon request, GSP will provide a letter of support after the applicant submits the filled template and application cover sheet. Step 3: GSP internal review and feedback

For GSP to review on compliance and feedback, email your application with the signed cover sheet to the GSP team by 26 September 2022.
