Current scholarship recipients FAQs

My scholarship requires me to be enrolled full-time, what does this mean?

The recommended study load is eight units per semester. However, if under your program rules, six units is still considered full-time, you would be considered full-time enrolled for your scholarship.

I am studying externally from overseas and have only enrolled in two units because I am working to save money for my travel to Australia. Does this meet the full-time enrolment requirements under my scholarship’s terms and conditions?

Unfortunately, this would not be considered a valid reason for your part-time enrolment and your scholarship would be cancelled.

I am studying externally from overseas and have only enrolled in two units because my program has strict guidelines on the number of courses I can do online. Does this meet the full-time enrolment requirements under my scholarship’s terms and conditions?

Yes, as long as your Faculty can verify you cannot enrol in additional courses because of program restrictions to online study, the part-time enrolment will not impact your scholarship.

If I change my degree program will my scholarship transfer over to my new program?

No, the scholarship was awarded for your original program of study.

You can request to have your scholarship transferred to your new program, but there is no guarantee the scholarship will be transferred over to the new program.

My scholarship was awarded by the International Admissions Office, so why is the Sponsored Students Unit contacting me regarding my scholarship?

The International Admissions Office is responsible for the promotion and awarding of your scholarship and the Sponsored Students Unit is responsible for the management of the terms and conditions of your scholarship once you commence your studies.

The Sponsored Students Unit manages a wide range of students with scholarships from overseas funding bodies, so they have been tasked with managing the terms and conditions for the suite of Future Students Scholarships.

My program requires me to make satisfactory academic progress each semester of study. If I fail a course or two, will this impact my scholarship?

Yes, you would be sent a “Scholarship Show Cause” letter advising that you have not met a condition of your scholarship.

You will have an opportunity to provide a statement and any evidence to support your statement on what impacted your academic performance and any items you have put in place to eliminate these factors in future. A Scholarship Show Cause committee will meet to review and documentation provided and you will be advised of an outcome.

If my scholarship is cancelled for not making satisfactory academic progress, can I appeal the decision?

Yes, the letter advising you of the cancellation of your scholarship will provide you with the process to appeal the decision.

I did not commence my program, but plan to start my studies at a later date. Will my scholarship still be available?

Unfortunately, “no” your scholarship will be terminated.

This is because the scholarships’ terms and condition state The University will terminate the scholarship if the recipient does not enrol in a relevant program in the proposed semester of commencement. You can request to be considered for the scholarship round for the semester you plan to start your degree.

I do not want to continue studying online and have decided to interrupt my studies for two consecutive semesters, will this impact my scholarship?

If you have a clause in your scholarship terms and conditions that state a scholarship will be terminated if you do not maintain enrolment for two semesters, your scholarship would be terminated.
