Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) Grant Round 2025-26
The Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) aims to foster stronger ties between Australia and Latin America in key areas such as business, education, sustainability, tourism, and cultural promotion.
COALAR is committed to promoting economic, political and social links between Australia and Latin America, and increasing awareness and understanding of each other’s cultures and values. See the Council’s new Strategic Plan 2024-2027.
Grants between $10,000 to $50,000 from a total funding pool of up to $300,000 is available to support projects for a maximum of 12 months.
The grant is open to Australian organisations/individuals and Latin American citizens/organisations.
The COALAR grants program is aligned with COALAR’s strategic goals which are:
- Goal 1 - Raise awareness of COALAR and Latin America-Australia relations
- Goal 2 - Strengthen commercial ties
- Goal 3 - Expand social and cultural connections
- Goal 4 - Foster and promote gender equality and women’s leadership
Strategic priority areas of COALAR and its 2025-2026 Grants Round are Culture and Entrepreneurship, Education and Research, Environment and Energy Transition, First Nations, and Mining, Mining Equipment, Technology And Services (METS), and Resources. See the Council’s Strategic Plan 2024-2027.
Submissions close at 5pm AEST 4 September 2025.
Applications will be prioritised from the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, México, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú, and Uruguay.
This scheme's UQ Indirect Costs rate is 0% as noted in the UQ Indirect Costs Variation Register.
Global Partnerships provides the Global Strategy Framework. The Global Strategy and Partnerships (GSP) team welcome enquiries to identify potential partners in Latin America.

Please consult the grant guidelines for the eligibility of your project.
Funding
- The estimated grant value is from $10,000 to $50,000 for up to 12 months
- Co-contributions from other parties strengthen an application and are encouraged
- Grants cannot be used for the fixed or recurrent expenditure of your organisation, such as ongoing salaries, fees or wages, which would be incurred irrespective of whether this project proceeds. Grants cannot be used to contribute to capital expenditures and purchase of equipment. For further details, please refer to the grant guidelines
How to apply
All applications must be submitted electronically by the applicant using DFAT's SmartyGrants online application form by 5pm AEST 4 September 2025.
The GSP team provides a letter of support template, an application cover sheet template to be completed by the applicant, a brief UQ capacity statement, and information on UQ's engagement in the country of your application upon request. The templates and documents can be found under "Key Resources" on the right-hand margin of this page.
Please allow 7 working days for the GSP team to process the letter of support (requests must be received by 26 August 2025). Letter of support will be issued after the signed cover sheet is received by the GSP team.
