Collaboration in action
- In a major step toward deepening Australia–India research collaboration, The Honorable David Crisafulli MP, Premier of Queensland and Minister for Veterans, visited the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) on 1 September 2025 with a high-level delegation. The visit highlighted the growing strategic partnership between Queensland and India in science, technology, and education.
- The University of Queensland (UQ) and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) Research Academy, in partnership with the CSIR National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), have won a fellowship grant from the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
- The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) hosted its 56th Annual Convocation in New Delhi 2 August 2025, marking a significant milestone in the academic journey of over 500 doctoral scholars conferred this year. 5 scholars from the UQ-IITD Joint PhD Program were conferred their degrees at the ceremony, bringing the total number of graduands of the Academy to 23, highlighting the strength and success of this international research collaboration.
- The University of Queensland (UQ), in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), has launched a landmark report offering a comprehensive statistical analysis of the Indian diaspora in Australia.
- In a rapidly evolving global landscape, the collaboration between academic research and industry practice is proving to be a powerful catalyst for innovation, economic development, and societal progress.
- The 2025 UQ–IITD Research Academy Annual Symposium was hosted by The University of Queensland (UQ) on 1-2 July 2025 at St Lucia in Brisbane. The symposium brought together around 180 participants including government, industry partners, PhD students, and academics from both UQ and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) to explore collaborative research initiatives aimed at addressing sustainability challenges and fostering innovation between Australia and India.

Indian students are the second-largest international cohort at UQ, with PhD studies, the Post Graduate Business, Bachelor of Engineering, among the most popular program choices.
The UQ Indian Student Club (UQISC) also supports Indian students and provides a platform to celebrate Indian culture with festivals, DJ and movie nights, Chai nights, games and social sports, educational workshops and Meet and Greets.
