The Stephen FitzGerald Scholars Program is a prestigious and unique national program that brings selected Chinese students to the capital for an immersive and rewarding three-day tour.

Funded by the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations (NFACR), an initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the program fosters strong and lasting links and cooperation between the two countries through the next generation of Chinese leaders.


How to apply

Submit the below to sponsored.students@uq.edu.au by 5pm AEST, Sunday 18 August 2024.

  • A CV (1-2 pages);
  • Full academic transcript of their current program of study; and
  • A short personal reflection highlighting their motivations for undertaking the program and how it aligns to their future career aspirations (max 500 words).

Funding details

All expenses-paid trip to Canberra (from anywhere in Australia) to participate in the Stephen FitzGerald Scholars Program from 20-22 November 2024.


Eligibility 

To be eligible for the Stephen FitzGerald Scholars Program, applicants must be:

  • An international student from Greater China (mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan).
  • Enrolled in a Honours or Masters by Coursework Program at The University of Queensland with a minimum GPA of 6.0 (or equivalent).
  • Able to commit to full participation in the program in Canberra (20-22 November 2024) and attend the pre-departure zoom briefing.

Benefits 

  • Unique inside access to the great institutions of Australian nationhood, from Parliament House, the High Court of Australia and the National Press Club, to the cultural and scientific organisations such as the National Gallery of Australia, the National Museum of Australia and CSIRO. Scholars will have contact with senior government, parliamentary, legal, cultural and scientific leaders.
  • Scholars of the program will become Stephen FitzGerald alumni and be part of a select alumni network of next generation Chinese leaders.

Closes 18 August 2024.

UQ will nominate 3 candidates for the program. An election committee will meet to determine the inaugural 30 Stephen FitzGerald Scholars. Communication of successful applicants will occur by the end of August 2024.
