The UQ-IITD Academy of Research held the 2022 Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition in November 2. The 3MT is an academic competition that challenges PhD students to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience.
3MT celebrates the discoveries made by research students and encourages their skill in communicating the importance of research to the broader community.
Congratulations to all presenters on their high-quality videos, available to view online, particularly the three student prize-winners:
- Winner: Satakshi Gupta
- Runner-up: Jayendran Iyer
- People’s choice: Aisha Noor
Winner, Satakshi Gupta, presented her research on unravelling the charge generation pathways in organic and hybrid solar cells. She said her time with the Academy has been an “exhilarating journey so far”.
“Condensing two years’ worth of work into a mere three minutes was indeed a challenging task. But I enjoyed every single minute of prepping for the competition, especially since it gave me the opportunity to explain my project in such simple terms to a mass audience,” she said.
Runner-up, Jayendran Iyer, thanked his supervisors for helping him understand the challenges in catalysis using various computational tools.
“It’s truly a one-of-the-kind experience to enjoy perks from both the universities, which motivates me to work harder and with higher efficiency. I have been having a great time here in UQ with many networking opportunities with my fellow colleagues,” he said.
“These discussions were also instrumental in improving my 3MT presentation. It’s always fun to explain our complicated thesis works in simple language which a layman can easily understand.”
