UQ Global Engagement is pleased to announce that 34 eligible applications were received for the first round of the 2017 UQ Global Strategy and Partnerships Seed Funding Scheme, totalling $298,788 in requested funding.
An initial allocation of $75,000 was approved for this round. Given the large number of high calibre applications, UQ was able to secure additional funding to the value of $99,537 to support 10 applications, representing a diverse spread across faculties and institutes.
The impressive breadth and quality of the proposed initiatives demonstrate the enormous commitment and contributions of our academic, research, and Senior Executive staff to furthering our strategic engagement with premier partners and priority countries.

- Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) – Denmark Technical University (DTU): Development of bioengineering platforms between UQ and DTU. Funding allocated: $10,000.
- Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) – Nanyang Technological University and Imperial College London, Singapore: Epigenetic signalling and Type 2 Diabetes – novel targets for intervention. Funding allocated: $10,000.
- Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) – University of Washington, USA: Maturation of human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes. Funding allocated: $10,000.
- School of Law – Jindal Global Law School, India: Building UQ's engagement with India through sports, legal education, and field experience. Funding allocated: $9,637.
- School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering – Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany: Joint UQ/TUM workshop on cyberphysical systems. Funding allocated: $9,900.
- School of Pharmacy – Guangdong Pharmaceutical Association, Sun Yat-Sen University, Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital, China: First Queensland Guangdong Clinical Pharmacy Symposium – 2017. Funding allocated: $10,000.
- School of Social Science – Institute for Employment Research (IAB), Germany; University College London; University of Manchester; University of East London; and University of Cardiff, UK: Refugee settlement and well being over the life course. Funding allocated: $10,000.
- School of Biological Sciences – Chinese Academy of Sciences, China: China-Australia Environmental Sustainability Partnership. Funding allocated: $10,000.
- School of Biological Sciences – National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore: UQ-NUS-NParks workshop on ecological and environmental decision science. Funding allocated: $10,000.
- School of Earth and Environmental Sciences – Badan Restorasi Gambut (BRG), Indonesia: International peatlands restoration research alliance symposium. Funding allocated: $10,000.
