International research collaboration secures funding

Eight collaborative research projects have been approved for $70,190 in funding in the second round of the 2017 UQ Global Strategy and Partnerships Seed Funding Scheme.

A total of 27 eligible applications were received for this round amounting to more than $280,000 in requested funding.

Congratulations to the successful applicants:
  • School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences – Technical University of Munich (Germany): Funding awarded to support advanced collaborations in the field of Chemical Biotechnology. Funding allocated: $2,500.
  • School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering – Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Technical University of Denmark, KAIST University (South Korea): Academic preparation workshops for quadrilateral student innovation workshops. Funding allocated: $9,000.
  • School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Social Work – Sengkang Health, SingHealth (Singapore): 2018 Research Week. Funding allocated: $10,000.
  • School of Biomedical Sciences – Technical University of Munich (Germany): Academic staff collaboration in the biomedical sciences with Technical University Munich and Ludwig Maximilians-University Munich. Funding allocated: $10,000.
  • School of Social Science – Pontifica Universida Catolica de Chile, Universidad Catolica del Norte (Chile): Navigating the tensions of development and cultural and ecological sustainability – building Indigenous community and academic collaboration in Australian and Chile. Funding allocated: $10,000.
  • School of Social Science – Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History (Germany). The future of the past: new archaeological science approaches to cultural interaction and biological exchange in the ancient world. Funding allocated: $10,000.
  • School of Public Health – University of Leeds (UK), Johns Hopkins University (USA): Health and hygiene improvements to enhance indigenous education opportunities: a health science partnership between Leeds University, Johns Hopkins University, and The University of Queensland. Funding allocated: $8,690.
  • School of Public Health – Sun Yat-Sen University (China): UQ-Sun Yat-Sen University collaborative workshops. Funding allocated: $10,000.

This scheme has proven instrumental in supporting the efforts of UQ’s faculties and institutes to establish new and expanded linkages with strategic global partners.

With the aim of supporting the successful implementation of the Global Strategy Framework, the UQ Global Strategy and Partnerships Seed Funding Scheme assists UQ faculties, institutes, and units to pursue activities that will strengthen the impact of UQ’s global network.
