UQ and Germany

Leading researchers from The University of Queensland, the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and São Paulo State University (UNESP) came together in December to discuss the future of food.

A massive international research effort has led to development of a genetic model for the ‘ultimate’ chickpea, with the potential to lift crop yields by up to 12 per cent.

10 collaborative research projects have been approved for $80,236 in funding in the 2021 UQ Global Strategy and Partnerships Seed Funding Scheme. A total of 17 eligible applications were received for this round amounting to $147,067 in requested funding.

UQ hosted His Excellency Dr Thomas Fitschen, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Australia, at the St Lucia campus in April 2021 for his first visit to UQ.

Africa is often referred to as the cradle of humankind – the birthplace of our species, Homo sapiens. There is evidence of the development of early symbolic behaviours such as pigment use and perforated shell ornaments in Africa, but so far most of what we know about the development of complex social behaviours such as burial and mourning has come from Eurasia.

German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce spoke with Dr Jessica Gallagher, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement and Entrepreneurship) at the University of Queensland, to talk about the University's sustainability projects.
