The big-eyed, long-tailed thresher shark has become rare in Indonesian waters, but a University of Queensland Australia Awards student is using funding from a conservation award to help protect them.

Hasto Budi Santoso reflects on his teaching practices. Hasto is an English teacher at SMPN 2 Tarakan, Kalimantan, Indonesia. He was recently invited by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Government of Indonesia, to participate in a fully customised professional development program for Indonesian teachers at The University of Queensland’s Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education in Brisbane, Australia.

University of Queensland researchers have partnered with institutes in Kenya, Indonesia and Vietnam to investigate the prevalence of mental disorders in adolescents.

Chloe Widmaier is in her first week at law firm Ashurst, and studying at night to finish this semester’s work. She’ll soon graduate with a Bachelor of Laws with a Diploma of Languages in Chinese.

Eleven collaborative research projects have been approved for $73,425 in funding in the second round of the 2018 UQ Global Strategy and Partnerships Seed Funding Scheme. A total of 28 eligible applications were received for this round amounting to more than $220,000 in requested funding.

Fifty-eight upcoming researchers raced against the clock as they competed in the 2018 Asia-Pacific Three Minute Thesis (3MT) final at The University of Queensland this week.
